Pennant Foods Organizes Outbound Transportation With LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS(R) Appointment Scheduling Increases Productivity; WebSettle(R) Adds Further Savings

HOLLAND, Mich., July 3 /PRNewswire/ -- LeanLogistics, a division of CHEP and the leading provider of Web-native Transportation Management Systems (TMS), announces that Pennant Foods chose LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS(R) to improve transportation operations for outbound shipments. Pennant Foods manufactures high quality, innovative bakery products, including frozen puff pastry and sweet doughs, cookies, croissants, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and Danish pastries. They also offer a complete line of baking ingredients including bakery mixes, fillings, icings and glazes. Using LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS(R) will not only reduce transportation spend, but Pennant uses LeanLogistics' WebSettle(R) settlement functionality which eliminates the use of a check writing company for additional savings.

"Using LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS(R) has helped us become a more efficient enterprise by reducing freight costs and improving on-time performance of shipments," said David Fleming, Senior Logistics Manager at Pennant Foods.

"With our unique value proposition, we have consistently delivered bottom line results for clients who face tremendous transportation challenges, including rising fuel costs, regulatory mandates, and higher levels of customer demand," said Dan Dershem, CEO and president, LeanLogistics.

Pennant Foods uses LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS(R) to plan, optimize, manage, and analyze their transportation operations, including appointment scheduling to organize outbound shipments which increases productivity and streamlines workflow. To locate additional carriers to cover loads when carriers are at capacity, Pennant utilizes the LeanLogistics Spot Market, which automates the tendering process and ensures that loads get covered.

Because of rising fuel costs and increased transportation spend, Pennant utilizes pooling operations from their Northlake plant, which allows them to reduce transportation expenses by consolidating their less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments with other companies' compatible freight headed in the same geographic direction. LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS(R) will oversee these operations. The Northlake plant ships products to five pooling locations where products are unloaded, married with other trucks' freight, and then delivered to customers.

Using pooling operations, Pennant can send small shipments to customers more quickly and cost-effectively by consolidating various shippers' loads into a full truckload, as opposed to each shipper sending their own truck. Moving frozen products via pool distribution can be complicated, because frozen providers are less common across the United States than refrigerated providers. With LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS(R), Pennant can find the needed capacity to accommodate their needs within the required delivery time frames.
